TORONTO – The Canadian Folk Music Awards (CFMA) is pleased to announce that the National Strum will take place on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 [Media can RSVP here]. Putting folk music front and centre like so many of Canada’s storied folk festivals, the event kicks off at Toronto City Hall’s members lounge at 2:45 p.m. local time and will feature a choir made up of well known faces of Toronto’s folk music community led by award-winning musician James Keelaghan.
The National Strum serves as a celebration of Canadian Folk music and ushers in the announcement of the 2016 Canadian Folk Music Awards’ nominees. 19 categories of CFMA nominees will be announced.
Perth, Ontario songwriter James Keelaghan’s song “My Skies” has been chosen as the National Strum song for 2016. Keelaghan is a Canadian Folk Music Award winner who has upheld the Canadian folk songwriting tradition for many years. In the song, he invites the listener to “take a walk under my skies.” Follow @folkawards and join the CFMA Facebook page for ongoing announcements and to join in live as CFMA periscopes and Facebook livestreams the event from Toronto.
