Afternoon workshops

Both workshops take place between 1:00 and 3:15 at Alumni Hall, Victoria College, Toronto.

Good Songs for Bad Times (1:00pm to 2:00pm) : Songwriters, like all of us, live through ever-changing scenarios – personal, political, romantic, economic, social or related to world affairs – and each writer reacts differently. This workshop will examine good songs that stem from bad times. Host: Candace Shaw, Peterborough Folk Festival, http://ptbofolkfest.com.  Participants : Evalyn Parry, Dave Gunning, Melisande.

Mad for Trad (2:15pm to 3:15pm) : Traditional music is the backbone for most styles of folk and roots music. This session picks up from a fabulous trad music workshop at the recent 25th annual OCFF conference and features trad players who exemplify the programming goals at Goderich’s Celtic Roots Festival, held on the August long weekend each year, immediately following a week-long “Celtic College” of music, storytelling and technical arts and crafts. Evening Gala & Reception

The seventh annual Canadian Folk Music awards gala will take place at the Isabel Bader Theatre, 93 Charles Street West, Toronto, Ontario. Awards will be presented in nineteen categories throughout an evening hosted by Shelagh Rogers of CBC Radio and Benoit Bourque of La Bottine Souriante. Doors open at 7:00 pm with the awards presentation at 8:00 pm, followed by a reception at Alumni Hall, Victoria College.

Performances by Loreena McKennitt, Jim Brynes + Steve Dawson, Rose Cousins, Soul Influence, De Temps Antan and the Common Thread Community Chorus.
