Les membres du comité organisateur sont fiers d’annoncer les récipiendaires des Prix de musique folk canadienne de l’année 2011!

Le public est invité è soumettre des candidats pour le tout nouveau Prix du travailleur de l’ombre qui récompense un individu, un groupe ou un organisme pour son apport exceptionnel à l’une ou l’autre facette de la scène de la musique folk canadienne (prestation sur scène, promotion, présentation, etc.).  Chaque année, le comité de direction des PMFC acceptera les candidatures pour des gens en provenance de la grande région où se tiendra l’édition actuelle des Prix de musique folk canadienne.

The public is invited to send in their nominations for the brand new Unsung Hero Award which will recognize the exceptional contribution of an individual, group, or organization to any aspect of the Canadian folk music scene (performance, promotion, presentation, etc). Each year, nominations will be accepted from the region where the awards will take place.

CFMA, TD Bank and The Twelfth Fret present the world premiere of A Walk in my Dream,  following the life-changing events of harmonica great Mike Stevens. Showtime at the TIFF Bell Lightbox, 350 King. St. West Cinema 3, is Friday, December 2, 8:00 pm.

The film features musician Mike Stevens, who is probably the only harmonica player in the World to appear on the Grand Ol’ Opry stage more than 300 times; give himself eight hernias because of the way he plays; and be named Kentucky Colonel by the Governor of Kentucky for his outstanding contribution to bluegrass music. Ten years ago, at the top of his game, Mike’s career took a sudden and drastic detour when he found himself face to face with a group of Labrador youth living in unimaginable conditions. His life would never be the same…and neither would theirs.

Tickets are $20 available at the TIFF box office and a full 50% of the ticket price will be a donation to ArtsCan Circle, the registered charity organization that is inspired by Stevens’ work and dedicated to linking creative artists with Indigenous youth at risk in Canada.

Le coup d’envoi des activités qui se tiendront pendant tout le weekend sera la première  mondiale du documentaire A Walk in my Dream, réalisé par Jonathan Torrens.  Ce film met en vedette le musicien Mike Stevens, probablement le seule harmoniciste à avoir joué plus de trois cents fois sur la scène du légendaire Grand Ol’ Opry de Nashville, en plus d’avoir été décoré par le gouverneur du Kentucky pour sa contribution exceptionnelle à la musique bluegrass. La carrière de Mike Stevens prit un tournant inattendu, il y a dix ans, alors qu’il  fut confronté aux difficiles conditions de vie d’un groupe de jeunes du Labrador.

A Walk in my Dream sera présenté le vendredi 2 décembre à 20h au TIFF Bell Lightbox, 350 rue King Ouest.  Les billets sont en vent au bureau de vent du TIFF au cout de 20$ ; 50% de la vente de billets sera remis à ArtsCanCircle, un organisme caritatif ayant pour mission de jumeler des artistes avec des jeunes autochtones en difficulté.  La présentation du documentaire est une collaboration  des PMFC avec la banque TD et The Twelfth Fret.
