In response to ongoing feedback from the community, the Boards of FMO, FMC, and the CFMAs (Folk Music Ontario, Folk Music Canada, and the Canadian Folk Music Awards) have initiated discussions to explore the possibility of consolidating into one new national organization while concurrently conducting due diligence and exploring options around an alliance with Folk Alliance International.
As separate organizations, we currently produce a national awards show, a national conference, and national export development projects.
In line with our organizations’ shared values and missions, we are undertaking this work to explore best pathways forward to build a unified, strong, inclusive, and sustainable Canadian folk music community.
We will be holding a facilitated Town Hall meeting during the Folk Music Ontario conference on Saturday, September 28th at 10:30 am at the Hilton Toronto Airport Hotel & Suites, 5875 Airport Road, Mississauga, ON. This event is open to our collective memberships and all community members.
An online survey seeking additional community input will be sent out after the Town Hall, with a summary of all conversations and feedback shared by late fall.
We acknowledge our respective offices are operating on the traditional territories of the Algonquin, Anishinaabek, Haudenosaunee, Mississauga of the New Credit, and Métis nations.
