The Canadian Folk Music Awards (CFMA) celebrates Canadian folk music in all its diversity.
CFMA is inviting applications to become a new member of the CFMA’s Board of Directors. CFMA is committed to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion and this position is open to all ages, gender identities, ethnicities, and backgrounds. We are particularly encouraging young members of the folk music community to apply to this position.
The vacant position has a term that will end in 2025, with an option to stand for election to a second term of three years.
At present this is a working board that meets once a month via video conference. Each Board member normally also serves on at least one committee and takes on duties related to the staging of the annual awards event and sustaining the organization. The time commitment varies according to the time of year and duties taken on, but it could amount to between 6 and 20 hours a month. The annual awards event usually lasts 4 days and moves to a different location in Canada each year. In 2024 it will be in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, April 4 – 7. As they will be helping to stage the event, Board members will be provided with specified transportation and accommodation costs as well as complimentary admission.
The ideal candidate would be someone with knowledge of Canadian folk music as well as experience in the folk/roots music community and industry, possibly as an artist, presenter, agent, manager, producer, industry association member, etc. Other possible assets could be knowledge or experience in communications and marketing, legal, fundraising, event planning and production, or accounting, as well as experience with not-for-profit organizations.
