Growing up in Cape Breton, Kym was molded by one of the most vibrant and collaborative arts and culture communities in the country.
Coming to the world of music through the disciplines of dance and theatre, Kym has taken on many roles over the years from creator, director, choreographer, performer, consultant, advisor, adjudicator and facilitator. One constant that remains is her passion as an arts educator and loves to nerd out over conversations of dance and music history.
Kym has sat on various provincial arts juries, music panels, artistic boards and advisory committees. Her creative work has been featured in music videos, television commercials, festivals, parades and gala events.
Since moving to Calgary, she has transitioned to a focus in music administration. She worked in the programming department of the National Music Centre, dabbled in some artist management, and worked with Alberta Music, Jazz YYC and the Canadian Music Publishers Association as an independent contractor.
Currently, Kym is a Director at Large for the YYC Music Awards, Artist Liaison Manager for Calgary Folk Music Festival, tap dance instructor at Decidedly Jazz Danceworks and teaches a senior citizens dance/movement class that starts her week with the biggest joy.
Kym is thrilled to be joining the Canadian Folk Music Awards Board of Directors and looking forward to connecting to more artists and audiences across the country.
